How Long Concrete Really Takes to Cure
By The Grayline Team · 3/18/2026
The most common question we get after a pour is a simple one: when can I use it? The honest answer has three parts, because curing and strength are not the same thing.
Day one is about the surface
Within 24 to 48 hours the surface is hard enough for light foot traffic, but the concrete underneath is still soft and gaining strength.
Day seven for vehicles
Keep passenger vehicles off a new residential driveway for seven days. By then the slab carries about three quarters of its design strength.
Day twenty-eight
Concrete reaches its full design strength at 28 days. Give a slab time in that order and it will outlast the question.
